To meet a wood carver who works exclusively with chisels and that draws its work, has now become a treasure hunt! Sergio, who use to play since he was a child with the chips of the Swiss Pine, in the small studio of his uncle, is one of these. He is one of those who have attended all the schools of art in their own country and then became in turn Teacher of Intaglio for other young people. His lab is in the former studio where his grandfather built, repaired and painted the Carriages and Landau.
The love for his land and the strong links with his past ooze from hundreds of Gouges, belonged to the old masters and arranged with devotion in their boxes, ready to receive the grinding wheel with water and natural stones, in order to be used on wood. Even Sergio’s mallets can tell their story. Once the woods have been chosen they are turned by the craftsman and then used gently, but firmly, to sculpt.
The luckiest has participated in the most important work: the wooden sculptures of Swiss Pine, the Dom Bedos - Roubo, Benedict XVI of San Domenico in Rieti, a 15 meters high Monumental Organ, designed in 1700 and never made before.
In the end the mallets tha have done a good job, are put with devotion in the window and will no longer be used.
All this takes place for a long time, under the direction of Secretary Gina, who, with his feline instinct acknowledges the good work and closely follows the execution.
And now my friends, do you think it is worth to meet Sergio?
