HOW THE EXPERIENCE WILL BE

This experience will begin with a brief introduction regarding the definition and classification of pottery items that will be followed by a focus on the materials and tools you will work with.
After that, apprentices will get directly in touch with these materials and tools to realize a vase following one of these techniques: "a lucignolo" or "a colombino", "a lastre" or "a colaggio".
Then we will try the moulding of a plate with the potter's wheel.
For lunch you will be my guest and I will let you taste a traditional dish from Abruzzi.
In the afternoon we will realize an object with the Raku technique, and once glazed and cooked, you'll be ready to bring it home with you.

SOME TIPS

If you don't want to get dirty with ceramic you better bring an apron or an overall with you.

A DAY IN THE JOINERY WORKSHOP

Sara & Ilaria, ebony joiner

144

We have worked for over 40 years in the production of high quality furniture. The company is located in the amazing countryside of Abruzzo, a perfect place to shape ideas and projects. The experience consists of a guided tour in the great joinery lab where traditional techniques and technological processes are the tools through which works of cabinet-making are created. Participants will be able to understand how a product is made, from design and construction analysis, to the choice of material until the realization in the laboratory. You can also learn more about the techniques of painting; from preparation to finishing, application of gold leaf (on request) or painting techniques combined with traditional painting systems. The hans-on workshop is dedicated to those who have the need, even for professional reasons, to know and better understand the processes related to the production of furniture.

YOUR ARTWORK MADE IN TUSCIA

Cinzia, ceramist

48

Cinzia will guide you through the various technical steps needed to get a final product, starting from the choice of a design and relative historical period that relates to it. For example, the thirteenth century feature green copper and manganese brown decorations, Saffron decorations, gray relief decoration and for the most skilled a realization of an Arul of Faul. After this you’ll have to transfer the chosen design by first dusting the support - plate or fragment of local stone called "Peperino"- in order to start painting with mineral oxides. After the painting phase the piece will be glazed and fired. At this point, you can choose to have your artwork shipped to your home (add shipping cost) or take it with you after two days.

With this experience we will travel along the creative path that I follow to make my ceramics; it is therefore provided a full tour of the laboratory during which I will explain the main stages of the realization of artistic ceramics and I'll tell you about the history of traditional and contemporary ceramics in Umbria, illustrating the tools that enable the production of my creations. You will also have the opportunity to do a little test of painting on ceramics. To complete the experience I will show you some of my works located along the picturesque street of the old town where my lab is.
