FAMILY TOUR AT THE GOLDBEATER (27/09/2019)

As we have a keen interest in gold leaf making in the world, it was the most rewarding experience. Elenor who guided us has a wealth of knowledge and passion for her family business, and answered all the questions we've made. This programme is very recommendable. Yuko and Bryan

FAMILY TOUR AT THE GOLDBEATER (21/06/2019)

It is very difficult to locate the workshop even with GPS. Luckily we could call and the girl came and met us after we were lost. That said it is a very interesting process for making gold leaf that we got to witness. It really takes only an hour; if that long and I think the price of 30 euros per person is too high.

FAMILY TOUR AT THE GOLDBEATER (22/09/2017)

We were welcomed at this long time family business and given a very complete tour of all the steps in producing gold leaf. Both the master gold banger and his daughter, who was our hostess, were the very best. Learning more about the work of local crafts men and women has been a highlight of our visit to Venice.

GROUP TOUR AT THE GOLDBEATER (20/11/2015)

Having taken a gilding class in Florence I also heard about Marino's Gold beating workshop! Wow it sounded so amazing and I just felt it the perfect compliment to learn how gold leaf is made. This family run business is a must see, all the family are involved in different ways, Marino starts the class with pouring molten gold into a metal mould, he then takes you through the process that gives him his name and watching him beating the gold with heavy hammers and without looking is both exciting and nail biting as he is so confident he will not hit his fingers. The gold goes through many stages to be made thinner and thinner and then cut into perfect sheets. The whole process is very professional and heartwarming. So nice to see such a traditional practice being kept alive! It is such an exciting place to experience. Just a little advice though, because I was staying in Florence, I took the first train to Venice, but what I didn't know is that the trains are unpredictable so if you can get there as early as possible it would be best. Also be prepared for the very 'unique' street system. What I thought was a road name is actually a whole area of venice and the number 5186 was not an area code, it was a door number and I found myself wandering round winding streets for about an hour from the station. It is confusing even to the locals which is why I just advise you you to give yourself more than enough time to find it. That said you must visit this little hidden gem of a workshop, I promise you will find gold at the end of the journey!

THE STORY

Our firm was founded in 1969 aiming to follow up the old family craft started in 1926.

Our laboratory is located in the house of Tiziano Vecellio, right in the old town centre of Venice. Getting here is like getting lost in time, between ancient walls and hidden gardens.

In the historical workshop, that has been kept intact since the foundation, gold, silver and other precious metals are transformed into thin leaves, suitable for applications in several sectors.

The main feature of our production is the handicraft process that we adopt, since the whole procedure is the same as the one suggested by the old wisdom handed down by our forebears.

A unique experience that will let you touch gold with your hands.

In this 40 minutes guided tour for groups in the workshop of the venetian Battiloro, the only one in Italy and in Europe that turns gold bars into thin leaves following a method of the 18, you will understand and observe how we actually transform this precious material. We will show this noble craft in all its stages inside the palace of the famous painter Titian. We will explain the different applications of those thin gold leaves. In the historic workshop, that is still intact since 1926, gold, silver and other precious metals are transformed into thin leaves, suitable for applications in many fields. The added value of our family-run business is the artisanal production and the passion that drives us: in fact, the whole working process is carried out with the old wisdom and the wealth of human labor. A unique experience that will make you touch gold with your hands!
