THE STORY

My love for mosaics wan't one at first sight, but one that was born from study.
I received my diploma in 1999 at the Art Institue Castrovillari, near Cosenza in Calabria as a Maestro of fabric applied arts. In 2001 I opened my artistic serigraphy studio, in 2004 I finally discovered the world of mosaics. I was so captivated by the idea of using tiny pieces to create one big masterpiece I decided to give up my work on fabrics and immerse myself in the world of mosaics.
Now I work in my study, creating pieces on request and using different techniques from the oldest to the newest modus operandi. I usually use stone in my pieces, choosing exactly which type depending on the piece. The work I do is thought out and completed: from the choice of instruments to the materials I use.
In 2014 I participated in the Fuorisalone in Milano with my piece "Foulard" and it was one of the most important experiences for my work: I presented a three dimensional piece made of marble, one of the heaviest materials, and made it appear weightless.
I always believed in sharing my ideas, my mission is to create the perfect mix between technique and culture, keeping myself always up to date, and then to be able to share my knowledge with others who share my passion.
Making mosaics fills me with joy and I try to give joy to others though my art.

EXPERIENCES WITH LEONARDO

WORKSHOP

A FRAME FOR YOUR MEMORIES

Leonardo, mosaic maker

96

Get a better understanding of mosaics by making a personal object. I'll be waiting in my studio to teach you how to decorate in mosaics a picture frame in which to keep your favorite memories. You will be allowed to chose between two different types of frames and then it will be your choice which colors and techniques to use (ex. Palladiana) to complete your very own piece. I will show you how to cut and place the tiles. The frame will be yours as a reminder of the experience.

WORKSHOP

A MOSAIC SELF-PORTRAIT

Leonardo, mosaic maker

240

How many times did you wish you had a self portrait? That moment has arrived! I will be waiting in my studio where you will be allowed to create your own mosaic self-portrait. A full immersion experience into the world of mosaics where you will be the protagonist! Send me a photo of yourself or the object of your portrait, I will organize your project and help you create it explaining the small things you can do to make your piece unique. The workshop will last the entire day, you will have the opportunity to experience and learn all of the steps, from preparing the holder to cutting the tiles and then placing them. When you have finished it will be my job to plaster, polish and send you the completed piece (free in Italy, price to be decided for outside). There will be a lunch break where I will have the pleasure of offering you typical food from the area. We will eat in my shop, so you don't lose your concentration. Making mosaics makes me happy, and my intention is to convey this passion to you as well.
