HOW THE EXPERIENCE WILL BE

During this 4-hour workshop I will show you the various wooden inlay techniques: fretwork, "buio", "toppo", the perspective inlay and the boulle technique.
In particular, the fretwork technique will be studied in depth with demonstrations of the various processing phases, up to the final polishing.
Afterwards, we'll try an easy workshop, where you'll learn the use of the fretworked arch, and I'll show you how to create three small inlays with floral motifs which will also be sandblasted.
Three wooden flowers made by your hands, that you'll bring home as a perfect souvenir of this experience and that can be used as a bookmark.

SOME TIPS

I suggest to wear comfortable clothing.
The reported time is indicative, it is possible to agree on a different time.
A minimum of 2 people is required, so bookings for couples are welcome.
The course is also suitable for children aged 8/9, obviously with the help of an adult.
In case you want to carry out the experience individually, do not hesitate to contact me to request a specific program.
On request it is possible to have a translator for English and other languages.

During this 2 hours visit inside the old workshop, you will learn about the intaglio carving craft, appreciating especially the technique commonly known as "foro-controforo". You will participate in a practical demonstration during which all the various traditional stages of production will be displayed: we will start with the preparation of woods before going through the cut stage carried out with a small arch, then we will proceed with the assembly and sandblasting just before the glueing and then finish with the French polishing. Moreover, we will discuss about other inlay techniques such as the so-called "a toppo" and "a buio".

BURIN ENGRAVING CLASS

Negar, goldsmith

60

During the experience in my showroom I will tell you about the burin engraving applied to goldsmith craft, we will have a brief conversation on this special technique from the traditional Florentine goldsmith culture to the contemporary usage. You will watch, touch and observe the jewels engraved following different techniques. Then we will move to my lab where I'll show you the manufacturing stages, the preparation of metallic sheet, the description of different types of burin and their usage, how to deal with some of my equipment. Of course I will also have a brief exhibition so that you will better understand the different kind of engraving. In the second part of the experience we will prepare the drawing that we are going to engrave, you will understand how to use the burin in order to sign the sketch. Now you can finally try it yourself, engrave the pattern and polish your artifact before having some final consideration. You will have the chance to take your creation away with you.
