The workshop starts for a minimum of 2 partecipants.
During the experience in my showroom I will tell you about the burin engraving applied to goldsmith craft, we will have a brief conversation on this special technique from the traditional Florentine goldsmith culture to the contemporary usage.
You will watch, touch and observe the jewels engraved following different techniques.
Then we will move to my lab where I'll show you the manufacturing stages, the preparation of metallic sheet, the description of different types of burin and their usage, how to deal with some of my equipment. Of course I will also have a brief exhibition so that you will better understand the different kind of engraving.
In the second part of the experience we will prepare the drawing that we are going to engrave, you will understand how to use the burin in order to sign the sketch. Now you can finally try it yourself, engrave the pattern and polish your artifact before having some final consideration.
You will have the chance to take your creation away with you.
The workshop is activated for a minimum of 2 people.
My tips:
- wear comfortably and avoid light colors if possible;
- bring your glasses if you wear them usually to read and write;
- tie your hair if they are as long as mine!

YOUR CUSTOM-MADE HAT
Renato, milliner
The workshop includes a short presentation of the work of the milliner and hatmaker, in which the different spaces of the atelier are shown, and the different activities that are carried out there. Then we move on to the making phase, which is organized as follows: 1 hour of preparing the hat shape (possible materials: sisal,straw or felt) from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.; lunch break circa 2 hours, and then from 2 to 5 p.m. we will work to finish and decorate the hat made previously. This particular type of craftsmanship involves fixing the hat shape in a kind of oven. This procedure requires a break time between the first stage of work and the next one, during which the work will be refined and finished.

GILDING ON WOOD
Stefania & Carlo, restorers
We will work together for about one hour, depending on the number of participants. We will begin with a brief introduction to the art of gilding, in which we will introduce you to the materials and decorative techniques by which you can understand the historical placements of the object. We will explain how gouache and mission gilding works and give some hints about the techniques of restoration of gilded and lacquered wooden works. For the practical part, you will get to try mission gilding of a small wooden object of Florentine manufacture and its subsequent aging. The wooden object provided by the school for rehearsal will be given to you free of charge as a memento of your visit.
