HOW THE EXPERIENCE WILL BE

To open the doors of a workshop means to unveil the most intimate secrets of a craftsman. A small world in which ideas are shaped by the most valuable tool that we have, our hands. And this will be our starting point.
Through a tactile experience we will understand how to identify the key features of different fabrics. In particular we will analyze the potential of jute, a natural fiber, 100% biodegradable and recyclable, lightweight, durable and very malleable. Together we will explore this amazing malleability and we will discover how to create a unique and precious object with a material which is considered "poor".
Every participant will challenge his creativity producing a bespoke hat.
Starting with an off-cut of jute you can choose to work with a base-made pattern or to adopt a fully-manual technique like the Moulage. Both methods will be explained and shown during the workshop.

The experience will last the whole day, from the morning until the afternoon. Timing are flexible, I will do what I can to meet your personal needs and requests.
A buffet - lunch is scheduled on the fresh porch facing a wide garden.

SOME TIPS

Chase away the everyday frenzy and relax in my lab for one day, breathe the special atmosphere of my magical lab where time has stopped.

WORKSHOP

YOUR POTTERY CUP

Elisa, ceramist

72

I offer some hours spent together in my atelier. We will talk about the pottery production and I will explain you the basic techniques to create an object. You can try various techniques, such as “a pollice”, “a colombino”, “della lastra”. After that you'll choose your favorite to create your own cup. I'll assist you during the process. You are going to decide the shape and I will lead you during all the production process. You'll see that your idea will easily take shape in your hands. If you want to decorate it, you can choose whether to color it, to etch it, to use stamps or to add some low relief motives. Once the object is done, you can finally sign your artwork. I will take care of the cooking once it is dried out. Later I'll glaze it as we agreed upon and I'll send it to you. The shipping in Italy is not extra charged.

WORKSHOP

CROCKERY SOAP HOLDER

Agnes, ceramist

78

As we are on the Como lake you will give your soap holder the shape of a stylized fish. To decorate, you will use stones, fabrics, seashells and other objects to imprint on your still fresh piece. At the end of this project your works will dry for a few days in the workshop, then after the first baking session I will fill in the print that you have made with a white polish and then bake the pieces for a second time at 1020 degrees centigrade. The finished soap holder will then be sent to your address - if you live in Italy the sending price is included in the course.
