Ringrazio Negar per la bella esperienza che ho potuto fare nel suo laboratorio artistico;

YOUR UNIQUE JEWEL (29/11/2017)

YOUR UNIQUE JEWEL (17/07/2017)

Consigliatissimo a tutti :)

THE STORY

I was born in Florence from Persians parents in 1978. I quit my University study in architecture in 2001 to devote myself to crafts: I realized that designing and creating artistic products with my mind, my heart and my "hands" would have made me much happier, it would even improve the quality of my life.

The transition from my studies in architecture to those of goldsmithing happened in the most natural way: I just changed “the scale of design" but keeping many other aspects intact.

The milestones of my educational path are:

- 2006, the meeting with Giò Carbone, director and master of "The Goldsmith Art” in Florence, where I attended the courses that have noticeably improved my artistic vision (I then graduated here getting the certificate of officer Goldsmith recognized at European level);

- 2007/2009, I attended some lectures conducted by Dr. Maria Cristina Bergesio on "The Jewel of research”, which has widened my knowledge on the World Contemporary Jewellery;

- 2008, the participation at the seminar on "Geometrical research in Jewellery" held by M. Giampaolo Babetto;

- 2009, the meeting with Maestro Stefano Marchetti and the study in the laboratory on a specific technique called "metallic divisionism”;

- 2009 again, when I began my study on the technique of "engraving burin" under the supervision of Maestro Giuseppe Casale after I ranked first in the competition organized by ”the Context Travel Foundation”.

My greater adventure finally began in 2012 when I opened my shop in Oltrarno, Florence, where you can come and meet me!

The workshop starts for a minimum of 2 partecipants. During the experience in my showroom I will tell you about the burin engraving applied to goldsmith craft, we will have a brief conversation on this special technique from the traditional Florentine goldsmith culture to the contemporary usage. You will watch, touch and observe the jewels engraved following different techniques. Then we will move to my lab where I'll show you the manufacturing stages, the preparation of metallic sheet, the description of different types of burin and their usage, how to deal with some of my equipment. Of course I will also have a brief exhibition so that you will better understand the different kind of engraving. In the second part of the experience we will prepare the drawing that we are going to engrave, you will understand how to use the burin in order to sign the sketch. Now you can finally try it yourself, engrave the pattern and polish your artifact before having some final consideration. You will have the chance to take your creation away with you.

Goldsmithing and weaving are two of the oldest forms of craftsmanship in the history of Man: combining these two arts in one "discipline" let you to create jewelry that are truly striking. During the tour you can discover the various forms that the texture of a fine thread of silver can take: tubular, modular and regular shapes that are so close to perfection, or some more organic and irregular creations that have a more human “touch”. In our showroom you can see and touch the jewelry collections Aracne and Atena (it is no coincidence that they are referred to the the greek myth) where these "paintings" are transformed into earrings, rings and necklaces. Later, visitors will enter the lab where they will see in practice how to create the silver wire and how it is woven.

YOUR UNIQUE JEWEL

Gerd Rothmann is a master goldsmith and his contribution in making the theme of unique jewel internationally recognized has been huge. The unique jewel is the one made with your fingerprint, or with that of a person we love. In this hands-on workshop we will re-elaborate this concept and you’ll be able to make your own brass jewel, under my guidance. Once in my studio, you’ll be fingerprinted and we will decide together if you are going to create a pendant or a ring. Then we will proceed with some sketches and the design before the actual realization of the jewel in wax. The experience will end with the creation of the wax jewel, after which I will send it to a specialized lab in order to brass molding it with the lost wax casting. I will then pick it up and polish it before sending it to you within 10 days after our meeting.
