Become a carver and printer for a day and create your first Japanese woodblock print. An afternoon to be introduced to the wonders of this ancient printing technique that does not require the use of solvents or acids. After a brief introduction where you will have the chance to admire some original vintage woodblocks and some original Ukiyo-e prints; I will explain you the steps to create your first print. At this point you can work at your own design, or you can let yourself inspire by the many books in the studio. Carve and print your first simple printing with two wooden matrices and then print more copies of them on Japanese paper.
In my atelier we do not use either acids or solvents, and all the materials used for printing are completely non-toxic. However the wood chips like to stick anywhere, I then recommend comfortable clothing and, in winter, hot.

RESTORE YOUR BOOK
Giovanna e Bianca, bookbinding
In a warm and charming atmosphere you will learn how to restore a book, so that you can take care of your home library. You will exercise on a book that we will provide to you, utilizing some fundamental restorer's tools that you will bring home at the end of the experience. We will understand together how books are dismantled and how to stitch booklets, as well as how ripped sheets are recovered and finally how to give a perfect guise according to the style of the volume. During the working day we will have some tasty breaks to relax and have some pleasant chat from time to time.

ENGRAVE AND PRINT POSTCARDS
Anita, engraver
This hands-on workshop is structured in this way: in the afternoon we will start the activity engraving a simple sketch on wood or linoleum, so that you will understand the basic of this craft. After the lunch break we will continue the activity trying to print some postcards with press or manually by hands following a Japanese technique. You will then create some small photo-frames made with paper or cardboards or, if you prefer, a small notebook with the cover printed before, so that you will have a souvenir to bring home!
